Sleep-Apnea diagnostic

What does outpatient sleep apnea diagnostics using WatchPAT technology mean?

Outpatient sleep apnea diagnostics involve a diagnostic device that uses innovative technology to ensure the accurate detection of sleep apnea. The focus is on autonomous use by the patient, and the device is designed for sleep apnea testing in your own bedroom.

Symptoms

Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS)

The most common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) include unexplained daytime sleepiness, restless sleep and loud snoring (with phases of silence followed by breathing). Less common symptoms include morning headaches, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, mood changes such as irritability, anxiety and depression, forgetfulness, increased heart rate or blood pressure, decreased sex drive, unexplained weight gain, increased urinary frequency or nocturia, frequent heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux, and heavy night sweats.

Process

What can you expect when using a WatchPAT sleep analysis device?

The WatchPAT sleep analysis device cannot be worn every day. It is a one-night-only device used to diagnose your sleep problem.

The WatchPAT home sleep apnea test can also be used to establish a baseline of sleep health before moving on to daily sleep monitoring with another wearable device.

Another function for which we find the WatchPAT sleep analyzer useful is for sleep apnea re-evaluation.

Sometimes patients need to requalify for sleep apnea treatment devices (such as CPAP machines). In addition, sometimes people can make lifestyle changes to improve or cure their sleep apnea. In these cases, a re-evaluation will detect the change and re-evaluate the CPAP machine.

The convenience of WatchPAT technology makes this follow-up much easier.

Summary

Why should you have an outpatient sleep apnea diagnosis carried out at our practice?

The above technology enables the rapid diagnosis of OSAS from home.

Dr. Konstantinou is one of the few cardiologists with extensive experience in the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. He will discuss with you the various treatment options and, if necessary, refer you for treatment with a CPAP mask.
