Heart Ultrasound
What is 3D/4D real-time echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound)?
An echocardiogram (or ultrasound of the heart) is an examination that uses sound waves to create images of the heart, heart valves and heart function. Echocardiography is one of the most important diagnostic procedures in cardiology.
What heart conditions can be diagnosed with a cardiac ultrasound?
A cardiac ultrasound can diagnose several heart conditions, including:
Aortic aneurysm: a bulge in the aorta, the main artery that carries blood from the heart to the chest and trunk.
Blood clots in the chambers of your heart.
Heart tumors or an infectious growth.
Congenital heart disease: A defect in the heart chambers, valves or vessels that has been present since birth
Cardiomyopathy: An abnormality of the heart muscle
Heart failure
Infective endocarditis: an infection of the heart valves
Regurgitation: when blood seeps backwards through the heart valves
Stenosis: when the heart valves are too narrow and do not open and close properly
Valvular disease: when one or more of the heart valves do not open or close properly
What can you expect during a heart ultrasound at our practice?
While you are lying on your left side and stretching out your left arm, a small device called a transducer is held against your chest. A special gel is used to ensure that the ultrasound waves can reach the heart effectively.
The most modern device from General Electric, Vivid 95, can be used to create a three-dimensional reconstruction of the heart and heart valves.
As part of the examination, a strain analysis is performed to enable a precise assessment of the heart muscle. The examination allows the early detection of changes in the heart muscle before they can be seen with the naked eye.
A precise determination of the volume of the heart chambers and the calculation of various indices are used for risk stratification and individualized treatment.
Why should you choose our team of medical experts to carry out your cardiac ultrasound scan?
We are convinced that high-quality diagnostics are an important first step in the treatment of heart disease.
We have gained extensive experience in our clinical work, as head of the ultrasound laboratory.
We also regularly attend ultrasound courses and training sessions to keep our skills up to date. Ultrasound cardiography is therefore the core element of our diagnostics. Our current focus is on three-dimensional ultrasound cardiography. That is why we made a conscious decision to choose the Vivid 95 3D/4D ultrasound scanner from General Electrics.
The device is fully equipped with the latest software and enables precise and accurate diagnosis.
